What are transfer maids?

Transfer maids refer to helpers that are currently in Singapore and can be interviewed in person.

What is the Maid Levy?

As per Ministry of Manpower regulation, an employer needs to pay the maids levy, which is a monthly tax paid to government on every single foreign domestic worker employed in the Republic of Singapore.

How much is the maid levy?

The levy is $300.00 per month or $10 per day, payable for the period the work permit is valid. For Singaporeans with young children below 16yrs old or elderly living under the same household above 65 years of age, the government offers a concessionary rate of $60.00 per month. CPF Board, as the collection agent, collects the Levy on behalf of MOM.

What is a security bond and how much is it?

Employer is responsible for the repatriation of the maid once the usual contract of 2 years expires unless it is renewed. You are required to post a security deposit (bond) of $5,000 for every maid with the work Permit Department, MOM. If you fail to repatriate the maid after cancellation of her work permit, you risk losing the $5,000 security deposit (bond).

What are the alternatives available against the $5,000 security deposit?

Employer can purchase an insurance policy through one of our insurers, which is much more cheaper alternative as compared to making the $5,000/-deposit.

What is the Personal Accident Insurance?

Employers need to purchase accident insurance coverage for the maid. We will advise and arrange such an insurance with various insurers for you.

How much will the Insurance for the security bond and personal accident cost?

It will cost an estimate of between $200 to $550 depending on the level of coverage and protection you decide to select for you and your domestic helper.

Is the maid required to undergo medical check-ups and how often?

Yes, she must get herself examined by a certified medical institution and only if she passes her medical test as deemed fit for working, then she can work for the employer. Such a medical examination is required every six months for screening, VDRL, pregnancy and HIV.

Who bears the responsibility for medical expenses for the maid?

As an employer, you are liable to pay full cost of medical expenses including hospitalization. So it is better to have the insurance coverage for hospitalization expense for your maid.

Employer requirements for hiring an FDW https://maid.agency/employer-requirements-for-hiring-an-fdw/ https://maid.agency/employer-requirements-for-hiring-an-fdw/#respond Sun, 04 May 2025 11:21:39 +0000 https://maid.agency/?p=2046

Employer requirements for hiring an FDW

As an employer, you need to meet the eligibility criteria before hiring a foreign domestic worker (FDW).

Who is eligible

To hire an FDW, you must:

  • Be 21 years old and above
  • Not be an undischarged bankrupt
  • Have the mental capacity to fully understand and discharge your responsibility as an employer.

We will also consider your financial ability to hire, maintain and upkeep the FDW in an acceptable accommodation.

If you are a first time FDW employer, you must attend an Employer Orientation Programme (EOP) before you apply for an FDW.

Refer to this pre-hiring checklist before deciding whether to hire an FDW, also available in Malay, Mandarin and Tamil.

Note:

You should not be diagnosed with any medical condition that would impair your ability to exercise supervision and control over the well-being of the FDW. Examples of such medical conditions include Alzheimer, dementia and schizophrenia which can cause symptoms such as severe memory lapses, confusion, emotional instability, progressive loss of mental ability, paranoia, etc.

Hiring a second FDW

We will consider applications for a second FDW if you have caregiving needs, such as having 2 or more children below the age of 18 or a parent or parent-in-law over 60 years old living with you.

You will be assessed on your financial ability to hire, maintain and upkeep more than one FDW in acceptable accommodation.
